Now that we’re on the international break, players are all set to maintain their form against other countries ahead of the 2018 world cup qualifiers in Russia. African countries have managed to complete the qualifiers with some new teams securing places while some big names out this time round. Africa’s 17 times champions- Egypt have secured their place in Russia ahead of Uganda and Ghana in the same group.
South Africa had a chance to redeem their hopes of playing in the 2018 WC ahead of a rematch against Senegal but ended up on the losing side with a 2-0 defeat at home followed by another lose away. Other competitive countries in the competition next year are Tunisia, Nigeria and Morocco. Other continents are still in the race to secure their places with many big names still in the competition. Germany will be defending the title in Russia after winning the cup in Brazil in 2014.
Without forgetting Asian teams, it has been a bumpy road for great names on their side such as Republic of China held in 5th position as their group see first time team Iran securing their place in Russia without a lose in the group stage followed in distant by South Korea. Asia’s group B leads with Japan followed closely by Saudi Arabia and Australia tied on 19 points. Position 1 and 2 qualify for world cup in both groups with playoffs held for teams in position 3.
