Its the EFL tournament, and again Arsenal never dissapointed. A 2-0 win over their opponents Reading was the end result of this match. Well this was quite an impressive score sheet for the Arsenal reserve team, for it carried the Arsenal flag in this match. The team line up consisted: Martinez, Holding, Gabriel, Jenkinson, Gibbs, Elneny, Maitland, Alex Oxlade- Chamberlain, Rein- Adelaide, Alex Iwobi and Lucas.
The goals started in the 34th minute by an impressive Chamberlain who enjoyed the spotlight after quite an easy goal. He dribbled past the defenders who were caught unaware thus were running out of their positions. With no delay, he shot the ball into the net giving Arsenal their deserved win.
The second and the final goal of the match came from Arsenal in the 77nth minute, still from the same man Chamberlain, thanks to a Giroud assist. All this started from an Elneny corner who high passed the ball to Holding who after dribbling some Reading defenders passed the ball to Giroud. Giroud on the other hand passed the ball to Chamberlain who worked out his magic by shooting the ball behind the net past Reading’s goalkeeper.
Generally, the gooners started dominating the game early in the first half. A near miss in the 5th minute from Jenkinson set the trend for Arsenal. This was later followed by the same performance from a composed Chamberlain who also missed by a whisker in the 7nth minute of play. However, perhaps the most talked of near miss in this first half came from Iwobi in the 28th minute who was quite unlucky not to get the ball into the back of the net from a Chamberlain cross.
The second half of the match was no different, Arsenal continued in their domination of the game and shots on target. The closest call in this case happened in the 69nth minute of play from an Elneny free kick, he shot it deep into the box with an aim of getting it to Giroud. Giroud who was by then surrounded by reading defenders couldnt make much of the ball but he attempted a header of which was blocked by Reading’s goalkeeper. This was quite a close call for Giroud who has not really been Wenger’s first choice striker this season to prove wenger wrong, but things werent soo rosy for him.
Generally speaking, this was a one sided match in which Arsenal really dominated over Reading, making it look like a practice session for the Arsenal squad. Not forgetting that most of the players who played were generally from the reserve team. If the stars were to feature in this game, it could have solely been raining goals in Arsenal’s favour.
Well, Reading on the other side had their chances but never utilized them well. Martinez, Holding and Gabriel seemed to be having quite a field day at the Arsenal defense for Reading did not really give them any pressure.
Well done Arsenal for securing an EFL quarter final slot.
